Town Hall Theatre Announces Exciting July-September Programme
Town Hall Theatre this week unveiled a vibrant programme of events for July to September including world-class festivals, theatre, music, dance, film, comedy, family, literary and special events.
July opens with the internationally acclaimed Galway Film Fleadh, which returns from 7-12 July with a packed schedule of 100+ screenings, premieres, and filmmaker discussions to Galway, showcasing the best in Irish and international cinema while supporting emerging and established filmmaking talent.
The cultural momentum continues with the Galway International Arts Festival from 13-26 July. The Town Hall Theatre will host a range of theatrical productions as part of the festival programme, including Druid's highly anticipated staging of The Shaughraun at the Town Hall and Pony Cam's critically acclaimed production Burnout Paradise and Stephanie Lake Company's powerful Colossus at the Black Box. Druid return in September with their eagerly awaited production of Eugene O'Neill's A Moon For the Misbegotten.
Decadent present their uplifting production of Hugo Hamilton's moving play about the iconic Irish writer Nuala O'Faoláin. Other highlights of the Town Hall's theatre Summer-Autumn theatre line up include productions by Róisín Stack (No Woman Is An Island), Mikel Murfi (with two of his critically acclaimed titles The Man In The Woman's Shoes and I Hear You and Rejoice), Brian Foster's masterpiece Myra's Story fresh from its West End run and To Hell in a Handbag by Helen Norton and Jonathon White.
Highlights of season's eclectic music programme include An Evening with Lulian and Jiaxin Lloyd Webber, and concerts by Cody Pennington, Country Superstars and an album launch for The Whileaways. Galway's Annual Summer Musical from Twin Productions this year is The Wiz, bound to be a highlight of the summer for families. In dance, Fidget Feet present their aerial hip hop H'opera H.O.M.E. and Undercurrent present Earthfall, an explosive tapestry of dance theatre and circus.
Little Cinema and Galway City of Film return with their unique 48 Hour Challenge event and Kenny Books present two very special literary events - Kyla Cobber in Conversation and Robert Haris in Conversation. Comedy also features strongly in the Town Hall's busy Summer-Autumn schedule with a new Irish language comedy musical An tÉalú (with surtitles), the Palestinian Comedy Club movie and the Do Bakchod Open Mic event. And don't miss Blood in The Alley's touring comedy hit Mary's Hopes and Dreams. Other events include the ever-popular Bingo Loco.

The Spring/Summer season 2026 is here
Town Hall Theatre Galway, this year celebrating the 30th anniversary of its official opening, has just announced its busiest Spring/Summer season ever, featuring an outstanding selection of theatre, music, comedy, film, musicals, and lots of special events.
From Druid to Don Wycherley, from Richard Thompson to Ryan Tubridy and from Little John Nee to Luail National Dance Company, there are hundreds of performances, screenings, and events to choose from and there is definitely something in the line-up to suit all interests and all ages in a packed programme. Full details about the season are published in the theatre's new season brochure, now available to download at tht.ie and tickets for all performances and events are now on sale
Highlights of the extended programme include an eclectic array of events in Cuirt International Festival of Literature, Galway Theatre Festival and Galway Folk Festival.
Theatre highlights include productions by Druid Theatre, Fishamble, ThisIsPopBaby, Brokentalkers, Little John Nee, Guna Nua, Don Wycherley, Declan Gorman, and Norma Sheahan with Shirley Valentine. Other theatre includes productions by Echo Acting, Precipice Collection, Elm Eye Collective, Closing Call Collective.
Dance highlights Luail Ireland's National Dance Company, Catherine Young Dance, Bevel and Embody, Youth Ballet West, Galway Dance.
Spoken word events in the Town Hall line up include Katriona O'Sullivan (author of the award-winning Poor), Maggie O'Farrell (Hamnet) and Ryan Tubridy with special guest Tommy Tiernan.
A busy music programme features a host of acts including Biird, Richard Thompson, Lisa O'Neill, Mary Black, Christine Bovill, Claudia Buckley, Leslie Dowdall, Flo Mac Sweeney, Marc Roberts, Whistleblast Quartet, Goethe Choir, Vladamir Jablokov, to name but a few. There's lots of comedy to choose from with Kyla Cobbler, Vottoria Angelone, Neil Delamere, Rachel Galvo, Jarlath Regan, David Nihill, Arthur Gourounlian, Donal Skehan and more, many more!
The April - June 2026 season also includes major productions from Galway Musical Society and KATS.
Family events include end-of-year performances by Trading Faces, Club S, Ciara Beech Academy, Sylvia Nolan, Ultraflex, Genevieve Ryan, Ceol na Mara, Dance Concepts, 4M Dance, Phoenix Stage School, D-Dance, StageSchool Ireland.
Film highlights in the new season include two special screenings for Galway Women's Caucus, supported by Galway City Council, Galway County Council and Women for Election.

Galway's Town Hall Theatre celebrating 30 years a-growing
A special concert will be held at the Town Hall Theatre this Sunday night to mark the 30th anniversary of its opening. In those 30 years, some three million people have attended shows and other events there and at its sister venue, the Black Box. Manager Fergal McGrath tells JUDY MURPHY about past adventures and future plans.
Local talent will be celebrated this Sunday evening when Galway’s Town Hall Theatre marks its 30th anniversary with a commemorative concert featuring The Whileaways, with special guests Mary Coughlan, Leo Moran, Pádraig Stevens and poet and playwright Rita Ann Higgins.
All are artists with “deep roots in Galway and who have a way of keeping us grounded”, according to Fergal McGrath who manages the Town Hall and its sister venue, the Black Box on the Dyke Road.
Both spaces were developed during Michael D Higgins’ tenure as Minister for the Arts, providing badly needed arts infrastructure for performers and audiences.

Town Hall Theatre announces LASTA Festival 2025 – a festival for young people by young people

Town Hall Theatre this week unveiled its programme for LASTA Festival 2025, a national arts festival for young people, by young people. The festival, now in its fourth year, will run from 1-6 October and the Town Hall Theatre is one of seven regional venues participating.Started in 2020 by Backstage Theatre, the event has blossomed to include venues nationwide and this year’s line-up features an expanded programme of exciting theatre, music, film, visual arts, and workshops all showcasing the next generation of talented artists and programmers.
Galway’s Lasta 2025 line-up offers something for everyone. There’s an intimate and atmospheric evening of haunting alt-folk from Galway’s evocative singer-songwriter Reylta, performing tracks from her acclaimed debut album. Theatre lovers can enjoy An Evening with Wee Daniel by Aoife Sweeney O’ Connor and Anonn | The Other Side by Cian Ó Náraigh. Jenni Nikinmaa will lead a full-day workshop for writers, offering guidance on scripts in development or ideas ready to take their first steps. Young audiences can dive into creativity with a fun, interactive group singing and arts workshop for Junior Infants to 2nd Class, hosted by Fuse Music Collective. Film fans can experience The Big Spool, a student film showcase presented by UoG Film Society, while visual arts enthusiasts can encounter Tension, a captivating exhibition by Zara Hering. The Town Hall Theatre’s Lasta 2025 programme has been created by three exceptional young curators - Alana Mullins, James Boylan and Lara Coady under the guidance of cultural mentor Maisie Lee and supported by the team at the Town Hall Theatre.
Alana Mullins is a Galway-based theatre artist and facilitator with a strong focus on work for young audiences. She was most recently part of the 2025 SELECTED Programme at Galway International Arts Festival. Through her ongoing work teaching drama and facilitating workshops for children with Stage Left Youth Theatre in Tuam, as well as delivering music and art workshops with FUSE Music Collective, Alana’s practice is grounded in creativity and inclusivity. Her work is informed by a deep passion for imaginative, child-centred storytelling. She holds a BA in Global Media and Performance & Screen Studies from the University of Galway and is currently pursuing further studies in special needs education. Alana has a strong passion for all areas of the arts, including live music events and visual arts. She has gained extensive experience in theatre over the years, having participated in various local productions. Alana is next set to work with Dublin Fringe Festival, where she will serve as the facilitator on artist Maisie Lee’s The Shape of Quiet Feelings, a theatrical installation exploring creative responses to climate change with children. Alana is thrilled to be part of the Young Curators Programme and looks forward to sharing the festival’s offerings with audiences.
Lara Coady is a director and theatre-maker originating from Kildare, Ireland. Her interests are in new writing, arts for young people, immersive and multidisciplinary work. As lead artist Lara created and produced i carry you with me (M.FEST Galway, 2024), Awaiting (M.FEST Galway, 2023), ilackpearls (Platform, 2023), and panopticon (Beckett Theatre, 2022). Her directorial film debut, a moment about goodbyes, was selected for the Lift-Off First Filmmaker Sessions and Lasta Short Film Festival 2024. She is currently in development for Still Here? supported by Kildare Arts Council. Beyond directing Lara is experienced in creative community engagement, arts management and administration. She has engaged professionally with acclaimed Irish organisations such as Pan Pan, tasteinyourmouth, Project Arts Centre, Teac Damsa and The Gate Theatre. Passionate about youth arts access, Lara works as drama facilitator and serves as Welfare Officer with Youth Theatre Ireland. She holds a first-class B.A. Hons. in Drama and Theatre Studies from Trinity College Dublin and a PgDip. in Cultural Event Management from Institute of Art, Design and Technology Dun Laoghaire. She is delighted to be a Young Curator and is looking forward to sharing the work with audiences!
James Boylan is an emerging Writer, Lyricist, Dramaturg, Director, and Sound Engineer based in Galway City, working primarily in traditional and musical theatre. He has a BA in Drama, Theatre, and Performance Studies with Classical Studies from the University of Galway. An award-winning writer, some of James’ writing pieces include Seven Deadly Sins (2020), The Life, and Many Deaths, of the Mad Monk (2022), and Second Draft (2024). Lyricist credits include The Frogs (2023) and Second Draft (2024). Directing credits include Tick, Tick… BOOM! (2023) and Second Draft (2024). James was part of the Visual Arts Internship Programme (2022) and the SELECTED Ambassadorship Programme (2023) with Galway International Arts Festival. James received an Agility Award from Arts Council Ireland (2023) to develop the script and score and host a week-long development workshop of Second Draft and was then staged in The Mick Lally Theatre as part of Lasta 2024.
